Ashok LeylandBar Icon

Founded in 1948, Ashok Leyland is the 2nd largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in India, 4th largest manufacturer of buses in the world and 16th largest manufacturer of trucks globally.

Challenge

Ashok Leyland’s customers are spread all across India, not just in cities but also in B-towns and villages. When a new truck – GURU was launched, the effort was to reach as many sales touch points as possible. However, it was impossible to take the new vehicle to so many locations in a short time.

Solution

We created a virtual reality application based on Google’s cardboard Virtual Reality (VR). With this VR app, we could create an experience and anticipation among the prospective clients by allowing customers to see the truck as if they are literally sitting inside it. What’s more, this could be delivered using the existing infrastructure of the salesmen – his mobile phone in addition to an under 1000 Rupees VR headset. We took great care to develop an experience that can be viewed even on a 10,000 Rupees mobile phone. As mobile based VR experience was not something the prospective customers had experienced before, Ashok Leyland also earned brownie points on the branding front, where customers perceived them as a technology leader in the automotive space.
